It’s a busy few months ahead for the Government’s housing policy if ministerial answers are anything to go by.

In the previous week, Government ministers have faced questions on a timeline for promised housing reforms.

Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook was asked when the Government would respond to the Our Future Homes report that called for Stamp Duty relief for last-time buyers.

He said: “We are committed to enhancing provision and choice for older people in the housing market and we will continue to consider this issue as we develop our long-term housing strategy, which will be published later this year.”

Pennycook had a similar “later this year” response when asked about a timeline for publishing the Government’s long-term housing strategy.

Meanwhile, when asked about when the Government plans to start work on digitising the home buying process, Rushanara Ali replied: “The Government committed to two projects to digitalise the home buying and selling process, including opening up local authority data and developing common data standards. These will be launched in the spring.”
